Description
Hopi Red Amaranth is a strikingly vibrant ornamental variety, deeply rooted in Indigenous traditions. Originally cultivated by the southwestern Hopi Nation as a dye plant, this variety stands out for having the reddest seedlings of any amaranth. Reaching 4-6 feet in height, it makes a bold statement in the garden with its brilliant red flower bracts. These flowers are used by the Hopi people to create a natural dye for their famous piki bread. The vivid red dye can also be used in craft projects or as a natural food coloring, offering endless creative possibilities. Additionally, the young leaves are tender and flavorful, making them excellent when sautéed. A beautiful and multi-purpose plant with rich cultural significance.
